What is Tasbeeh?

We all know that Allah Almighty has created this whole universe. There is no ambiguity or falseness in it. It is not an easy task, and no one could do it except Allah. As Allah is almighty and powerful, so there should be some terms for the glory of Allah. Tasbeeh or Tasbih is a specific form of Dhikr that let us know about the glorification of Allah by calling Subhan Allah, which means that “Glorified is Allah.”

Meaning of Tasbeeh in English & Arabic

The word Tasbeeh is derived from the Arabic word Sin-ba-ha. Sin-ba-ha is a root word that implies “To Glorify.” We can say that Tasbeeh is also derived from the irregular word “Subhan.” The literal meaning of the word Tasbeeh in English is “To travel swiftly” if used as a verb. The word Tasbih is derived from the phrase Subhan Allah devotionally and let us know that “God is devoid.”

Variants of the Root word of Tasbeeh

Tasbih is derived from the word “Subhan Allah,” so there are many variants of Tasbeeh which have a keyword, Subhan Allah. Some of the most commonly used are:

  1. Subhan Allah سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ

This means that “Glorified is Allah.”

  1. Subhan Allah wa-bi Hamdih (سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

All is Glorified and by His praise

  1. Subhan-a- Rabi Al-Azeem wa-bi-Hamdih سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Glorified is my God, the mighty, and by His applause.

  1. Subhan-a- Rabi Al-a-la wa-bi-Hamdih سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَبِحَمْدِهِ

Glorified is Allah, the highest, and by His applause.

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

No one is Lord except Allah, glorified are you! I have, without a doubt, been among the transgressors.

Tasbeeh of Namaz

As we discussed above, various forms of Tasbih. Some of them are necessary to be read in prayer or Namaz.

  • It is a must for everyone to read “Subhan-a- Rabi Al-Azeem wa-bi-Hamdih” at least three times in a single Rakooh.
  • Likewise, Subhan-a- Rabi Al-a-la wa-bi-Hamdih must be read at least three times in each Sajdah.
  • The word “Subhan Allah” along with many other forms is used in Namaz many times like at the start of Namaz, and we say that سُبْحَانَكَ ٱللَّٰهُمَّ which means that Glorified are you, O Allah. Also, many other forms are used in the same way.
  • There is a whole Namaz named “Salaat e Tasbeeh” in which we only read Tasbeeh with a proper method.

Tasbeeh of Duas

The term “Dua” is gotten from the Arabic word importance to ‘call out’ or to ‘gather,’ and Muslims see this as a significant demonstration of love. This is when Muslims from everywhere interface with God and approach him for pardoning and favors. Some other forms of Tasbeeh are also specialized for Duas like لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ .

Tasbeeh after Namaz

Hazrat Muhammad SAW taught us a few of the basic Tasbih to be read after each prayer. These three most essential tasbih are

  • Subhan Allah (سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ‎) called as Tasbih.
  • Alhamd-u-Lilah (ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ‎) called as Tamhid Tasbih.
  • Allah-u-Akbar (ٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ), called as Takbir Tasbih.

Hazrat Muhammad SAW told his daughter Hazrat Fatimah RA about the above three Tasbih to be read after each prayer. We can call them “Tasbeeh of Fatimah.” He said that to read

  • Subhan Allah 33 times after each prayer.
  • Alhamd-u-Lilah 33 times.
  • Allah-u-Akbar 34 times.

Tasbeeh of Fatimah

In the starting days of Ali and Fatimah’s marriage, Ali brought in next to no cash and couldn’t manage a worker’s cost for Fatimah. Fatimah’s hands were rankled from steady crushing; her neck had gotten sore from conveying water; her garments had gotten messy from clearing the floor. One day Ali knew that Muhammad had a few workers and encouraged Fatimah to approach him for his workers. Fatimah went, yet she couldn’t inquire.

At last, Ali went with Fatimah to Muhammad’s home. He didn’t acknowledge their solicitation, saying, “there are numerous vagrants (starved). I should offer these workers to take care of them”. At that point, Muhammad said, “I will give you one thing better than aiding of the worker.” He showed them an extraordinary way of Dhikr, which is known as the “tasbih of Fatimah.”

Salat ul Tasbih

A well-known prayer of Islam is also known as Tasbih’s Salat. The Holy Prophet SAW toal that it is a must for a person to pray Salat e Tasbih once in a life. The most key Tasbih for Salat ul Tasbih is “Subhanallahi wal Hamdulillahi, wala Ilaha Illallahu, wallahu Akbar”. This Tasbih recites 300 times in 4 Rakats. So, “Subhanallahi wal Hamdulillahi, wala Ilaha Illallahu, wallahu Akbar” can be read 75 times in each rakah.

Importance of Tasbeeh

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrated that:

Some needy individuals went to the Prophet and stated, “The affluent individuals will get higher evaluations and will have lasting satisfaction, and they ask like us and quick as we do. They have more cash by which they play out the Hajj and ‘Umra, battle and battle in Allah’s Cause and give in the foundation.” The Prophet stated, “Will I did not reveal to you a thing after which on the off chance that you acted you would find the individuals who have outperformed you? No one would surpass you, and you would be superior to the individuals among whom you live aside from the individuals who might do likewise.

State “Subhan-Allah,” “Alhamd-u-lillah,” and “Allah-u-Akbar” multiple times each after each (mandatory) petition.” We varied, and a few of us said that we should state “Subhan Allah” various times and “Alhamd-u-lillah” multiple times and “Allah-u-Akbar” numerous times. I went to the Prophet, who said: “State, “Subhan Allah,” and “Alhamd-u-lillah,” and “Allahu Akbar” all together for multiple times.” (Book #12, Hadith #804)

Virtues of Tasbeeh

Some of the virtues Tasbeeh are

  • Hazrat Abu Huraira RA reports that Hazrat Muhammad said: Two are the terms which are light on the tongue, yet weighty on the scale, adored to the Most Compassionate One: SubhaanAllah Wa Bihamdihi; SubhaanAllahil Azeem Glory be to Allah with His Praise; Glory be to Allah, the Great. (Sahih Muslim)
  • Hazrat Muhammad SAW stated: “There are no days where honest deeds are more critical or dearest to Allah than these ten days, so you ought to discuss a ton of Tasbih, Tahmid, Tahlil, and Takbir in that.”
  • One of the Hadith of Sahih Muslims tells us that: Hazrat Muhammad SAW once asked the Sahabah, ‘Would you say you can’t procure 1,000 great deeds daily’? Somebody stated, ‘How might we procure 1,000 great deeds daily’? Nabi SAW answered, ‘Make 100 Tasbih [Subhan Allah] and 1,000 great deeds will be recorded for you or 1,000 sins will be eradicated” [Some adaptations state, 1,000 great deeds will be recorded and 1,000 sins erased]. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2698)

As there are too many virtues of Tasbeeh, so we can earn great rewards by doing Tasbeeh. Many types of digital counters can help you read a fixed number of a particular Tasbih.
