Sayyidul Istighfar is the best form of “Istighfar” it is the best dua for seeking the forgiveness of sins. Sayyidul Istighfar Benefits 

There are several benefits. 

1. Whoever makes it a habit to recite Sayyidul Istighfar once a day, if possible, recites it once after every prayer, then Allah (SWT) will forgive all his sins. 
2. One who recites Sayyidul istighfar, his heart inclined towards good deeds, his heart will be pleased with the worship of Allah. 
3. Allah will bestow him with peace of heart and mind. 
4. Recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar frequently after true repentance before Allah is proof of forgiveness of sins.

Sayyidul Istighfar Hadith

In a hadith from Sahih al Bukhari, Kitab al Da’wat, Hazrat Shaddad ibn Aus (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: “This is the best form of istighfar. He who prays being steadfast these terms during the day and the night with firm belief and dies during the day or night will be one of the dwellers of Paradise.”

Sayyidul Istighfar in Arabic 

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْمِ  

اَلّلهُمَّ أنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا اِلهَ اِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ اَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِيْ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ ذُنُوْبِىْ فَإِنَّه لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إلَّا أَنْتَ

Sayyidul Istighfar Transliteration

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The best prayer for seeking forgiveness is to say: 

“Allahumma anta Rabbii laa ilaaha illaa anta, Khalaq-tanii wa ana ‘Abduka, wa ana a’la a’hdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu, a’udhu bika min sharri maa sana’tu, abuo-u laka bini’matika a’laiya, wa abuo-u laka bidhanbii faghfirli, fa innahuo laa yaghfiru-dhunouba illaa anta.” 

Sayyidul Istighfar English Translation

Start with the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 

“O Allah, you are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me. And I am your servant. And I stand by your covenant and promise. I seek refuge in You, according to my power, from my iniquities. And I confess your blessings and confess my sins. So forgive me my sins. Verily, no one forgives sins except You.”

اے اللہ تو میرا رب ہے۔ تیرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ تو نے ہی مجھے پیدا کیا۔ اور میں تیرا بندہ ہوں۔ اور میں تیرے عہد اور وعدے پر قائم ہوں۔ اپنی طاقت کے موافق میں تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں، اپنی بدکاریوں سے۔ اور تیری نعمتوں کا اقرار کرتا ہوں اور اپنے گناہوں کا اقرار کرتا ہوں۔ تو میرے گناہ بخش دے۔ پس تیرے سوا کوئی گناہ نہیں بخشتا۔
