Many Hadith about Quran and Sunnah. have been narrated that demonstrate the virtue of Quran reading and encourage it. The following are some of these hadiths:

• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whenever a group of people gather in one of the houses of Allah Almighty.
• Reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, angels surround them, and Allah reminds them of what is in their hearts.” Allah is with those who are with Him.
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Recite the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.
• Recite the two lights, Surat Al-Baqarah and Surat Al-Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection like two clouds, or like two canopies, or like two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading on behalf of their companions.
• Recite Surat Al-Baqarah, for learning it is a blessing, and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the false ones cannot memorize it.”
• Muawiyah: It has reached me that the word “batala” means “witches.” [In another narration]: However, he said: It is as if they are both, and he did not mention Muawiyah’s statement: It has reached me.

Hadiths on the Virtue of Memorizing the Qur’an

• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “The example of one who recites the Qur’an and has memorized it is like that of the noble and righteous scribes.
• The example of one who recites it and strives to memorize it, and it is difficult for him, is like that of one who recites it and is burdened with it. He will have two rewards.”
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “The best of you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.”
• A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have come to offer myself to you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at her, raised his gaze and focused on her.
• Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) lowered his head. When the woman saw that he had not decided anything regarding her, she sat down.
• Then one of his companions stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need of her, So marry her to me. He said: Do you have anything? He said: No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah.
• He said: Go to your family and see if you can find anything. So he went and then came back and said: No, by Allah, I have not found anything.
• So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Look, even if it is an iron ring. So he went and then came back and said:
• No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, not even an iron ring, but this is my lower garment – Sahl said: He does not have a cloak – so she has it. Half of it. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: What will you do with your izar? If you wear it, nothing of it will be on her, and if she wears it, nothing of it will be on you.
• The man sat down and when his sitting was prolonged, he stood up. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw him turning away, so he ordered that he be summoned.
• When he came, he said: What do you have of the Qur’an? He said: I have with me such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah, and he enumerated them.
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: Recite them by heart. Your heart said: Yes. He said: Go, for I have given her to you in possession of what you have of the Qur’an.

Hadiths on the Virtue of Listening to the Qur’an

Many nobles Hadith about Quran and Sunnah have been narrated that demonstrate the virtue of listening to the Holy Qur’an and encourage it. Some of these hadiths are mentioned below:

• On the authority of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to me: “Recite the Qur’an to me.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, should I recite it to you when it was revealed to you?” He said: “I desire to hear it from someone other than myself.”
• So I recited Surat An-Nisa until I reached the verse: “How (will it be) when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you, [O Muhammad], against these as a witness?” [An-Nisa’: 41] I raised my head, or he nudged me. A man was next to me, so I raised my head and saw his tears streaming down.

Hadiths on the Virtue of Reciting the Qur’an

Many noble Hadith about Quran and Sunnah have been narrated that demonstrate the virtue of reciting the Holy Qur’an. Some of these hadiths are mentioned below:

• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “The example of a believer who recites the Qur’an is like a citron, its fragrance is pleasant and its taste is pleasant.
• The example of a believer who does not recite the Qur’an is like a date, its taste is pleasant but its smell is unpleasant. The example of a wicked person who recites the Qur’an is like basil, its fragrance is pleasant but its taste is bitter.
• The example of a wicked person who does not recite the Qur’an is like colocynth, its taste is bitter but its smell is unpleasant. The example of a righteous companion is like the owner of musk; if you are not affected by it, its fragrance affects you.
• The example of a bad companion is like the owner of a bellows; if you are not affected by its blackness, you are affected by its…” (its smoke).
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “There is no envy except in two cases: a man to whom Allah has taught the Qur’an, and he recites it night and day, and a neighbor of his hears him and says,
• ‘If only I had been given what so-and-so has been given, so I could do what he does.’ And a man to whom Allah has given wealth, and he spends it in righteousness, and a man says, ‘If only I had been given what so-and-so has been given, so I could do what he does.’”
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: ‘Recite and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in this world, for your station will be at the last verse you recite.’”
• The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Allah has people among mankind.” They asked: “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He said: “They are the people of the Qur’an, the people of Allah and His chosen ones.”
